PLA, or polylactic acid, is a biodegradable thermoplastic polymer made from renewable resources such as corn, sugar beet, or sugarcane. It is commonly used for disposable cutlery, food packaging, and 3D printing. PLA is valued for its lower environmental impact compared to fossil-based plastics, as it can decompose under industrial composting conditions.
