As plants, trees, and shrubs grow, their roots can damage sidewalks, roads, walls, building foundations, and underground utilities. A root barrier creates a physical obstacle that prevents roots from entering sensitive areas, redirecting and channeling their growth. Installed underground and invisible once in place, root barriers limit or guide root development to protect infrastructure and other plants. Strategically placed, they safeguard underground networks such as water, electricity, gas, and telecom lines. Root barriers also help contain invasive plants like bamboo or Japanese knotweed, preventing them from spreading to nearby vegetation.
The Plantcotex™ Racine Cannelé root barrier is made from recycled HDPE and features grooves to guide roots downward. Its raised bumps reduce root circling and encourage vertical growth, while its robust structure provides high puncture resistance. Semi-rigid panels can be connected using a junction kit, allowing protection over long distances, such as along streets or pathways.
– Protects infrastructure: by preventing roots from damaging roads, walls, and underground utilities
– Guides roots downward: reducing circling and invasive growth like bamboo or Japanese knotweed
– Semi-rigid and durable: making it easy to install and resistant to punctures.
– Connectable panels: allow long-distance protection for streets, pathways, and large planting areas.
